Coffee, Lectures, and Chores: My Daily Grind in a 100% Remote Setup
People often assume studying from home is the easy way out—waking up five minutes before class, lounging in pajamas all day, and breezing through assignments without a care in the world. But the truth is a constant balancing act that tests every bit of my focus and time management. As a first-year student, my biggest challenge isn’t just keeping up with the workload—it’s trying to concentrate on a 20-page thesis about climate policy while my neighbor’s dog barks nonstop in their yard and my mom pops her head in to ask if I’ve started the rice cooker for dinner. Navigating this "home-school balance" feels like holding down a full-time job on top of my studies: my bedroom is no longer just a place to sleep or relax—it’s my office, my library, my study hall, and my safe space when things get overwhelming. Some days, the line between "student life" and "home life" blurs completely—my assignment deadlines get mixed up with grocery lists, and my study breaks turn into helping my younger cousin practice spelling words for their test. What keeps me steady and sane? A massive cup of strong coffee to kickstart my mornings, strictly timed playlists for deep work sessions, and the quiet realization that it’s okay to be imperfect. We’re all just trying to figure this out as we go, and every small win—whether it’s finishing a paper or getting the laundry done—counts for something. To my fellow home-based students: we’re not just earning degrees—we’re building the kind of discipline and resilience that will serve us long after we walk across the graduation stage.
